IAIS 100 - named "Hawkeye" - is the Iowa Interstate's only business car. It's a heavyweight, open platform car, acquired in May of 2006 from the Kansas City Southern. It was formerly KCS 1887 - "Laredo" - and before that named "Arthur E. Stilwell".

The car's exact history is a bit of a mystery. The KCS Historical Society has two possible histories. The first is that it was built by the Frisco (SLSF) in 1928 as a dining car, then rebuilt in 1949 by the Frisco as their office car "Tennessee". The first history then states it went to the Ontario Northland as their "Moosonee" in 1965, then on to a private individual in Texas.

The second story indicates the car was built in 1912 by ACF as a coach. It then was rebuilt into a diner in 1942 and then again into business car KCS #2 in 1948. It became the Tennessee in 1954, and was eventually sold to a private individual. Exactly which story is true - first or second - is unknown.

After the private individual bit, both stories are consistent. While off the railroad, it suffered a fire. It was purchased by the Midsouth and restored in 1988 as their "Prospector". It was then acquired via the KCS-Midsouth merger in 1993, when it became KCS 1887, "Arthur E. Stilwell" - named and numbered after their founder and the year the KCS started.

The car arrived as part of the Rock Island-Iowa City turn on 18-May-2006. It was sent west to Council Bluffs on 27-May-2006, where it was renumbered and renamed in early July and then sent east again.

Note: This IAIS 100 should not be confused with Iowa Interstate's SD20 locomotive #100, which was in service from Jul 1996 to Jun 2001.
