Album: IAIS 628 - GP38AC

Close-up of 628's cab. The shine of the prototype's front end repaint was evident for some time after, so I attempted to model this by giving the cab face and everything forward of that point two coats of Future floor finish. I'd heard good things about the use of Future as a gloss sealant for modeling, and I found it to be a great product for that purpose. It spreads evenly and gives what I think is a nice, prototypical shine without being as eye-catching as a gloss black paint.

When the prototype was touched-up, the Council Bluffs shop forces reapplied the frame stripe forward of the cab only. I attempted to represent this by applying an oil wash of burnt umber directly behind that point and Future forward of there.

I thought it was interesting that the front edge of the prototype's front drop step was painted yellow during her touch-ups. I believe 628 is the only unit on the roster to receive that treatment.
