I've posted a number of photos over the years of previous attempts at modeling IAIS GP38-2s: Custom-painted P2K, P2K shells retrofitted to Atlas drives, and upgraded Athearn blue box RTR models with Kato motors. When I became aware of the Athearn Genesis models being offered in IAIS paint, I sold all remaining examples of my earlier efforts except for one: IAIS 709, which is a P2K shell I detailed, painted, and decaled on an Atlas GP38 drive. Now that the Genesis models are out, I thought it'd be fun to compare the two. IAIS 718 is one of four Athearn Genesis models that just joined the roster.

I used Scalecoat 2 CNW Yellow for the hood ends on the 709, and it looks close enough to the color Athearn used that I'll likely try it when I remove the class lights.
